What I liked about this bag was that you can definitely fit a water bottle. BUT the way the bag is constructed that the bag gets too heavy and it topples over. If you want to carry a small bottle then this will definitely work. I travel to NYC so a small bottle does not work for me. This is a lovely bag and I had a hard time returning it. I had already read the reviews and I know that topple over was a concern so I made sure that tags and original packing was on and bag was not used. Sadly I had to send it back. Search goes on!The strap can be a little uncomfortable if wearing as a crossbody for an extended amount of time. Other than that, the bag is pretty much perfect. My phone fits in the phone compartment. I put a mini wallet, lip balm, comb and keys in the zipper compartment. Small water bottle or assorted odds and ends in the open compartment. It's a nice little grab and go bag when you don't want to haul around a purse.
